Quick Fix For Dark Circles, Bags and/or Under Eye Discoloration

I wear Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer in SX08

Hey Ladies,

This is my little personal letter to you. I was trying to avoid GA Bar studying today, so I naturally hopped on Facebook. As I scrolled through my newsfeed, which consists of many Indian girls, I noticed that so many of them have such bad bags / dark circles (FYI, I am definitely one of those girls with extremely dark circles, even when I sleep for 10 hours – it’s genetic, hyper pigmentation around that area – I know).  What was a tad confusing, was the fact, these girls wear make up, they just did not want to highlight and brighten their under eyes (which to me is like straightening half of your hair and leaving the other half curly/wavy/nappy). I don’t know why they wouldn’t want to conceal their dark circles, but I’ve basically told myself that the reason they’re not taking care of the problem is:

(1) They don’t know they have the problem; and/or

(2) They don’t know how to solve the problem.

How to assess whether you have this problem: get a mirror & look at your face. Is the skin directly under your eye darker than your cheeks? If yes, then you need to focus on concealing the under eye  area when you’re doing you’re makeup.

Don’t fret. I am here for you girl! First off, you need real concealer. The liquid  or cream stuff will work.  The powder concealers are not going to solve your problem (example: using Bare Minerals or Bare Essentials loose powder in a concentrated way, will not help conceal your bags). I would suggest Kevin Aucoin’s Sensual Skin Enhancer or  MAC Pro Longwear concealers.  These two are both THICK concealers that should do the trick.

As stated, I have dark circles under my eyes, I like the MAC Pro Longwear for daytime and I like the Kevin Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer for nighttime, going out, date night, dinner with friends, any evening event  or event where I want to step it up and look my best.

Kevin Aucoin’s Sensual Skin Enhancer is relatively expensive ($48 @ Bloomingdales) , BUT it will last you a long time. To set the concealer (which is a MUST) I use Ben Nye’s Banana Powder (feel free to use any translucent powder you own).

Just remember, you have beautiful eyes — so show them off girl.

Any questions? I’d love to answer them!  Also, what’s your favorite concealer? Confused about how to apply concealer just YouTube it!

XOXO

Cosmetics Haul!

A week a go a friend texted me about helping her purchase a starter’s kit of makeup! I quickly replied with “YES, WHEN DO YOU WANT TO GO?!”

Long story short her starter kit had the basics (I wish I had taken a picture of it):

  • BareMinerals starter collection: foundation, concealer, mineral veil, brightener and brushes!
  • Mac Lipstick (nothing bright, or dark – also not nude, but a light subtle berry shade)
  • Maybelline Falsies Mascara
  • Revlon Eyebrow Pencil with setting gel
  • Revlon liquid liner

ITEMS I PURCHASED:

As you know I recently graduated (see last post), I have been dying to try a few beauty products like the Kevin Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer & a liquid foundation (I’ve never really tried one before).

I have to say — I loved the Kevin Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer in x08. Although the little jar is expensive ($48), everyone on social media has a legitimate point: a little goes a long way. After barley dabbing my brush into the pot, I had enough product to cover my under eyes, nose, forehead, & chin.  As I learn to play with it, I will post more pictures of the product, and even maybe a guide on how to use it for first timers.

(I used Kevin Aucoin’s Sensual Skin Enhancer under my eyes, on the bridge of my nose, cupid’s bow and chin.  I blended it with a Beauty Blender dupe, which I purchased from Amazon. I have on Mac Pro Long Wear foundation, along with a brown powder for contouring, Blush & Lipstick from BareMinerals and my eye look was created using the BALM)

One other point, I really like the coverage it provides. It’s an full coverage concealer, unlike my MAC prolong concealers (I purchased this as well in NC 42), which are build-able. At the same time, the product is also light. It’s something you’ll have to try out to fully understand.

As far as liquid foundation goes, I decided to go with Mac’s liquid foundation. It is such a trusted brand and a personal favorite — I had to. I did contemplate getting the BareMinerals Liquid Foundation, but I opted not to after reading reviews on it via Sephora.

I purchased some other staples:

  • Rimmel’s Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal ( it initially bleeds easily, so I would set it with a black eyes shadow. I used this technique in the picture above on me and the girl in the middle — this picture was taken 2 hours into the night!)
  • Neutrogena Pore Refining Toner
  • Acne Wash Target Brand (It’s a dupe for Neutrogena’s Pink Grapefruit Foaming Scrub)
  • Olay Total Effects 7 in one Anti Aging Night Firming Treatment
  • False Lashes from Eylure

Okay friends, I’m off! TTYL!

Recent YouTube Subscription!

There are SO many beauty vloggers out there — like a ridiculous amount. My favorite vloggers are the ones that really take a lot of time and care into learning the art of making professional looking videos.

All of the effects really amuse me – and I love it when they speed up basic processes. I hate it when they talk forever, although sometimes I enjoy learning more about them.

Teni is my new favorite beauty blogger. I originally started following her, since I was in the market for a new Indian beauty guru who has a similar complexion to me — that way I could wear the same colors as her without wondering if it will suite my skin tone.  I love gurus like Bethany Mota & Michelle Phan –BUT my skin tone is no where near theirs, and my eyes are different: so some of the eye shadow techniques or looks are NOT for me. I have an olive-yellow-ish undertone with a medium/warm complexion (basically I’m a goldish brown color),  I have some serious dark pigmentation under my eyes (so concealer is an essential item in my routine), & I already have big eyes– so I don’t need techniques to make them bigger, or else I’ll look like a walking indian anime doll.

I love more natural looks and everyday glam, as opposed to just CLUB glam, because with law school, everyday glam is more important than club glam (seeing as I rarely “go out” and my now I find myself grab lunch and dinner with good friends).

Teni is great. She isn’t indian, but she is great. She might be two/three shades lighter than me, but her undertone is the same (I think). She is beautiful, she takes care of herself, and is truly a beauty vlogger I feel like I can trust.

I hope you get hooked to her — not a fan of SONA, seeing as she despises the smell of curry – RUDE. I should unsubscribe from SONA, but some of her looks are cute too, and minus the whole curry ordeal, she is okay too, but not as good as Teni!

Product I Continuously Buy

I am a beauty and food addict. Sometimes beauty is a little challenging to write about it, because  there is so much good stuff out there, and requires a more detailed review, but I would love to share products with you that I continuously buy:

  1. Moroccan Oil (I purchased this 4 times–since trying it 3 years ago). It’s a great product, and now it’s like conditioner, body wash & shampoo– it’s apart of my routine. I put it in my hair after I shower, put it in my hair after I’m done styling it!
  2. TRESemme Heat Protectant Spray (the red bottle– I’ve purchased this 3 times since trying it in 2011). I feel like this is a great product –and hopefully it’s doing what it’s suppose to –because i feel like it is and it smells greats and curbs the frizz mid going out or mid-dinner with friends!
  3. Apple Cider Vinegar (bought this twice since buying it in October, 2013). I am obsessed and will have a WHOLE post dedicated to it! Needless to say: great for your HAIR, SKIN AND WEIGHT!
  4. NARS “Larger Than Life” lipgloss in Place Vendôme: OMG LOVE IT! AHHHH but I hate the price tag ($26). I only wear it for special occasions/going out & the quality and consistency is awesome, it’s thick, glossy, stays put, leaves my mark on glasses, and has a pretty residual effect!  when i wear it people always notice it and my girl friends are always trying to “borrow it”  so it’s  WINNER! and once i get some time I’ll go out and purchase it again!!
  5. Revlon  Lip Butter in Candy Apple: I’ve purchased it twice. great color, feels great, and doesn’t flake or dry out!
  6. Nexxus Shampoo and Conditioner: I’ve been buying it since 2009. Salon quality product – i like the lather.
  7. Foaming make-up cloths:  I usually buy Oil of Olay or Ponds, which ever one is on sale – they’re both great. i use them alot when i’m worried about over working my skin with the Clarisonic!
  8. Neutrogena Grapefruit Body Wash and Face Wash: (Purchased this 4 times!) It seems natural and I like the grapefruit aspect.
  9. Make Up Forever’s Black Eye Liner: LOVE THIS. i use to wear regular drugstore liner (Revlon, Cover Girl, etc) but it would always end up ON my contacts and then at some point during the night my eyes would feel irritated and my vision would blur! Ever since buying this I can say that it’s NEVER HAPPENED. I love this product, and WILL be purchasing it again ($20).
  10. Falsie’s Mascara with the bottom lash brush: LOVE this mascara. My relationship with it is turbulent because it dries out out my lashes and sometimes flakes — but I the results i get with Falsie’s does not compare to any other brand i’ve tried — it’s just AWESOME – people always compliment my lashes. I have purchased at least 5 or 6 tubes!

Ben Nye

I recently jumped on the Ben Nye: Banana Powder band wagon  – and THANK GOD I did!

I’m obsessed with YouTube tutorials — you guys know that. So naturally after watching 30+ beauty tutorials, I realized that these bloggers were on to something, and that I definitely needed to check it out!

When I googled the product, I realized that I was not splurging at all, since this item is less than $20, and you get a TON of product! I soon headed to ULTA to purchase this beauty and found out that — ULTA does not sell Ben Nye! They redirected me to a costume make-up store called Norcosto, and I soon headed over.

When I finally arrived at Norcosto, I quickly asked the associate where the Ben Nye Banana Powder was and she pointed to the wall that was apparently right in front of my face. I GRABBED IT.

……but I can’t go to a makeup store without trying out new products, so yeah—I bought a few more fun products.

I bought this awesome technicolor Ben Nye Eye Shadow — I love it, so sheer and I love what the color does depending on where the light hits it, it’s multidimensional and fabulous — it’s like a Bare Mineral loose eye shadow, with out the Bare Mineral price.

I also bought a Ben Nye setting spray — and WOW. It worked. After a long night of dancing and sweating– my make-up stayed in tack. I even splashed water on my face post clubbing and NONE OF MY MAKE UP SMEARED.

Needless to say, I love my Ben Nye products. They’re reasonably priced and you get a good amount of product with each purchase.

P.S. As an Indian girl translucent powders are great but can make me look ashy, and recently I was using my Bare Minerals translucent powder heavily under my eyes, and I wasn’t to pleased with the finish I was getting, so I’m happy that I no longer have to do that — since I’m strictly using the Banana Powder as my under eye setting powder!

24/7 Glide on Eye Shadow Pencil

Hey guys,

I love makeup! It’s unfortunate, that I ALSO love sleep. Usually, my love for sleep trumps my love for makeup, but this doesn’t ALWAYS mean that I show up looking half done for class, or work — but what it really means is that I buy products that are easy to use, and have nice holding/lasting power.

Today’s easy to use product is the URBAN DECAY 24/7 GLIDE ON EYE SHADOWS.

I originally bought this product on HAUTELOOK.COM (one of my favorite websites). It was $20 (I think) and came in 5 colors. My favorite colors in the set are the two brown colors, and “sin” (which is a light color).

How I APPLY IT:

I basically take the lighter color “sin” or “cowboy” in the inner one half of my eye lid, and the use the darker color on the outter half of my eyelid, use my index finger and blend them together in the middle. I get A 30 SECOND smokey eye!

I also go back and apply the lighter color to the bottom corner of my inner eye!

Cheers!

P.S. I basically do what this girl does in the youtube video, just incase you want to some help, or need some visual aid!
