Atkins Park: 794 N Highland Ave Atlanta, GA 30306

Have you been to Atkins Park? Because of law school I had only seen the crowded bar portion of the restaurant — when I think of crowded, rowdy, bar, I do not associate it with a great restaurant attached to the other side — and this is EXACTLY what Atkins Park is!

A friend of mine LOVES Atkins Park. After being a tad skeptical, I decided I would check it out. Thank GOD I went! I LOVED the menu  and the food. The service was great and the food was well prepared. I loved my dish. I’m not one to want sweet things, but the pairings of the apple with the North Georgia trout was beautiful and the taste was delicate and not over powering. They ran out of the pot roast the night I went, so my friend ordered the special for the night (I think:  brisket with Vidalia onion and local greens.  We also ordered an awesome pimento cheese appetizer with fried green tomatoes: which I LOVE!!!!!!!

Here are few pictures of our meal:

Thankfully, celery is healthy and has only 6 calories per stalk….

I have a quick fact to insert about Vidalia Onions (great dinner conversation piece): did you know that in order to be a “Vidalia Onion” it needs to be grown by or from Vidalia, Georgia. These onions are trademarked by the United States Patent and Trademark office, so you can’t legally grow a Vidalia onion, or sell it without it actually being from the following thirteen Georgia counties: Emanuel, Candler, Treutlen, Bulloch, Wheeler, Montgomery, Evans, Tattnall, Toombs, Telfair, Jeff Davis, Appling, and Bacon; or portions of the following seven counties: Jenkins, Screven, Laurens, Dodge, Pierce, Wayne, and Long.

I definitely stole a few bites of that sweet Vidalia onion and mashed potatoes.

Loved this! Burbon soaked applies with a North Georgia Trout!

Who doesn’t love a side of mac n’ cheese?

Have a great Monday friends! Also, comment below if you have been to Atkins or are now planning to go!

Oh yeah, what should you wear to Atkins Park? Preppy, casual, bar chic, bar trendy. Do not wear clubbing clothes, or a short tight black dress — you’ll look awkward – or like you are trying too hard. Also don’t dress TOO casual. Example: if you decide to wear a t-shirt, khakis & rainbows — you will look like a fool.

Bettering Yourself: Relationship With Your Parents

We spend a considerable amount of time in front of the mirror, perfecting our looks, assembling flattering outfits, and adorning our bodies with jewels, but sometimes it’s good to pause and think “Hey – why am I doing this?”

Are you doing it to gain confidence?

Are you doing it to just look normal?

Are you doing it because it’s the norm?

Why?

This thought just crossed my head as I was studying — I was thinking about how I need to spend more meaningful time with my parents. They’re not getting any younger, and right now is the time to develop a meaningful relationship with them. I love my parents & I had an ideal childhood, so  why do I find it a chore to talk to them sometimes? I feel bad for considering it a chore, or something on my list of things to do, since they truly mean the world to me and I would have debilitating pain if anything ever happened to them.

Relationships and style are about effort. Sometimes a great look is effortless, and sometimes a great relationship is too, but every now and then you need to spice up your routine, and same goes for  your relationship, and you need to put a little more effort in or switch up/spice up your routine.

I like the interplay between the two, because to a certain degree they both go hand in hand. If you rush your routine, you may not be happy with your result as you glance at yourself using your rear view mirror, and the same could be said with relationships, if you pay minimal attention to it and rush out the door — you may not get the same satisfaction in maintaining it or even having it.

Some techniques I’m going to do to make my conversations more meaningful and energetic:

  • bring a ton of energy in my voice when i’m speaking. “Hey!!!!! How are you guys!?!?! What is going on? What did you eat? OMG THAT SOUNDS AMAZING!!!”  lol you get my point.
  • I’m going to tell them a joke.
  •  I’m going to be an active listener.
  • I’m going to make sure we do not dwell on the phone.
  • I’m going to make sure we use the time constructively.
  • I’ll ask for advice. (everyone loves feeling needed, and feeling like they effortless help you out)

Being hundreds of miles from my parents makes it hard — but i know it’s possible with a few tricks and tips.  Do you have any tips or tricks? How do you keep your relationship with your parents meaningful?

Perfume: Britney Spears and My collection!

Have you heard the new Britney Spears song:

I love this song! It’s incredibly on point. Do you remember not knowing what was going on in a relationship and you have to pretend to play it cool because you don’t want to seem like that crazy girl? Well in the song Britney Spears sticks it to this “girl” who may or may not be real! She says:

have you been thinking ’bout her or about me- And while I wait I put on my perfume, yeah I want it all over you -I gotta mark my territory

All of this perfume talk gets me thinking of my scents and how the smell lingers on my friends. I always have a few bottles of perfumes–so depending on my mood or the occasion I pick my scent! The three perfumes I currently own are:

  1. COCO MADEMOISELLE PARFUM ($115): Such a classic scent. I love it, it sticks on my clothes and can be detected as I pass through doors — and people always know the distinct smell of Coco!
  2. MARC JACOBS FRAGRANCE Daisy ($70): I wear this to school (almost) everyday! It’s fun and playful. I’m not sure if it sticks on my clothes? Definitely more floral and chic.
  3. RALPH LAUREN Ralph ($67.50): I use to wear this in college EVERY single day! I loved it i mainly use it when i want to appear fun or if i’m going out! i love the smell — I wouldn’t wear it to an interview, but i would wear it out  to dinner with friends or going to the mall!

I own the rollers versions of:

  1. RALPH LAUREN Ralph ($20)
  2. RALPH LAUREN Romance ($20)
  3. STELLA MCCARTNEY ($?)

I love roll-ons! They’re awesome — they fit perfectly in your purse and you can always smell great when things get a little hot and sweaty. Who doesn’t love a fresh smelling girl?

Party Bus – ATL

Party Bus - ATL

This past weekend I took a party bus with some friends! It was AN incredibly fun weekend. Although, I did NOT want to use this blog to discuss my life or things that I do socially —I’ll purposely slip up JUST once.

We first took the party to FOX BROTHERS BBQ.
If you haven’t heard of FOX BROS BBQ, it’s seriously the best BBQ in ATL. I absolutely love the food and the service is AWESOME! I got the FoxBros Burger, with a side of Mac n Cheese & (the award winning) Chili!

After dinner, we went to Flip Flops. Flip Flops is a College esq. bar, they play awesome music upstairs and downstairs, but upstairs is where the party is AT. Everyone is dancing, and enjoying the DJ –who, by the way, DOES NOT TAKE REQUESTS. The dance floor is small, and the upstairs gets extremely packed by 12!

NEXT, we went to COSMO LAVA. Cosmo Lava, has a dress code, so NO flip flips allowed BROS. Cosmo Lava has a million different dance rooms, which is cool, but overwhelming, since everyone ends up in different areas of the massive club. So it’s hard to keep track of what is going on, and where everyone is! It’s great for a wide variety of people, races and music! It’s truly an eclectic joint!

OOTN: As you can see we went to completely different venues through out the entire night, so I wore white shorts, and a coral linen shirt. The shorts are from Arden B. and the Linen shirt is from J. Crew. I decided to pair it with some light arm candy, diamond studs, & NUDE kitten heels from NineWest (to make sure that my attire would be night time appropriate, and not look way TOO casual). The purse i’m wearing is just a plain black messenger bag from Forever 21 (I LOVE the bag, I’ve had it for around a year now, and it’s awesome, I wear it more than any of my other 20 purses–it goes to show, a simple black bag can go a long way!)

Maxi Dresses

My best friends visited me this memorial day weekend! I took them to them to this beautiful park. We love doing outdoorsy things, and we also LOVE getting dressed up– so this park was perfect for us! It had beautiful mini bridges and plenty of benches of us to sit and relax. The weather was perfect, and the trees were sky tall, blocking the hot Georgia sun.

My Maxi Dress is from Urban Outfitters. I LOVE IT! I have worn it several times since purchasing it. It’s extremely light and still very opaque. The little splash of neon makes it a fun dress for day OR night! I bought it for $25-$30 on sale this past OCTOBER!

LOVE!

Park Picnic!

I absolutely love picnics! They’re my favorite part of the spring and summer season.  I just went on one yesterday– the weather was in the high 70’s, a little windy, great company & not to crowded. I couldn’t have been any happier. We enjoyed drunken goat & manchego cheese, a baguette, curried chicken salad, & tiramisu!

All of the treats were from Alon’s!  The tiramisu was perfect: light, not to sweet, and an awesome mixture of flavors.

Wedges: NineWest. White jeans: Urban Outfitters. Top: H&M. Necklace: Forever21. Hat: Forever21. Sunglasses: Coach.

I hope all of you get a chance to enjoy the great weather. Also, Happy Memorial Day!

LOVE.

Want to look cute for class?

Life as a graduate student means putting in the hours all day- everyday, even the weekend while you’re visiting your best friend. The outfit featured here consists of: Green Studded Pants from H&M ($39), GAP Jean Jacket ($30) , White sheer shirt from Marshalls ($10 or $14), Steve Madden Sandals ($30 Summer 2012), Ralph Lauren Aviators from Century 21 ($30) & MK watch.

This outfit looks effortless & so cute! The weather outside was in the mid 70’s, but the library was in the mid 60’s, so it was an excellent idea to layer up!
